Two weeks later

Similar to how she’d felt before her first and second wedding ceremonies, Vienna had flutters in her stomach. But today they didn’t stem from nervousness. They were tremors of excitement and anticipation. In a few minutes she would become Mrs. Vienna McCall—for the second time in a matter of months. Only today she knew without a doubt that West loved her as much as she loved him.

“You look stunning,” Maggy exclaimed, turning Vienna toward the floor-length mirror.

Her long, white gown hugged her waist before flowing to the floor. Ms. Glasen, Sheridan’s most accomplished dressmaker and a friend of Maggy’s, had created the beautiful gown. In her hands, Vienna held a bouquet of late-summer roses.

“What about me, Ms. Maggy?” Hattie asked.

Maggy took Hattie’s hand and guided her forward to stand beside Vienna. “You look absolutely beautiful, too, Hattie. Daddy West will be in awe of both of you.”

The little girl beamed into the mirror and swished her fancy dress from side to side.

A knock at the door quickened Vienna’s pulse. It must be time. “Come in,” she called as she turned away from the mirror.

Alec, who’d told them that he wouldn’t miss their second wedding ceremony for anything, poked his head inside. “The pastor says he’s ready.” He smiled at Vienna. “However, I don’t know that West is ready. One look at his beautiful bride and he’s liable to get tongue-tied.”

“Thank you, Alec,” Vienna said, blushing with pleasure at his compliment. “We’re ready, too.”

She followed her daughter and Maggy out of the small room and stopped at the entrance to the chapel. From the back, she could see the church was nearly full. The guests included their friends and neighbors as well as her aunt and cousin and West’s mother and sisters. It seemed no one wanted to miss the wedding this time.

For a moment, she felt a twinge of sadness that her parents and brother wouldn’t be among those seated. But as Edward stepped up beside her to lead her down the aisle, Vienna reminded herself that they were likely aware of today’s importance in her life and were smiling down on her with approval.

The organist started playing as she and Edward walked down the aisle. Vienna had purposely waited to look at West until this moment. When her eyes met his, he smiled with such radiance that it nearly stole her breath. He looked incredibly handsome in his new three-piece suit, which had been a gift from his family. This handsome, wonderful, kind cowboy was about to become her husband—again.

Soon she was standing next to West, her hand tenderly clasped in his, as the pastor began the ceremony. There was none of the panic or sweaty palms she’d experienced when they’d been married by the judge. Today she felt as if she were lit from the inside out with joy and peace.

Several chuckles echoed through the church when the pastor asked if “you, Westin McCall, take Vienna Harriet McCall to be your lawfully wedded wife?” And then again when he asked if Vienna McCall took Westin McCall as her lawfully wedded husband.
